New Practice Directorate Executive Director Thanks Senators

April 23, 2008-The new APA Executive Director for Professional Practice, Katherine Nordal, PhD, thanked Senator Pete V. Domenici (R-NM) and Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) for their tireless efforts on behalf of mental health at The Campaign for Mental Health Reform (CAMHR) annual awards dinner on April 16.
Dr. Nordal joined senators and other members of Congress, the administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and approximately 300 other advocates for strong mental health legislation in honoring Senator Domenici for Lifetime Achievement and Senator Kennedy for Enduring Leadership.
CAMHR is a collaboration of 17 national health organizations dedicated to making mental health a national priority and early access, recovery and quality in mental health services the hallmarks of our nation's mental health system.
The Campaign also honored two non-profits: The Jed Foundation, which works to prevent suicide and promote mental health among college students, and Active Minds on Campus, which develops and supports student-run mental health awareness, education, and advocacy on college campuses.
In addition to Dr. Nordal, Assistant Executive Director for Government Relations Marilyn Richmond, JD, and Congressional Director Cordell Francis, MSW, also represented the Practice Directorate.
