Road To Resilience Campaign

Road to Resilience Campaign

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 had a profound effect on us all -- as individuals, as a profession, as a community and as a nation. We have all been touched in some way by these events, some more than others. Some of us have lost colleagues, friends and loved ones; all of us have lost an innocence.

Please take the time to look through the attached materials to see how you can make a significant contribution in you local community by educating the public about resilience and demonstrating the value of psychology and psychological services.

Introduction

Like other initiatives supported by the American Psychological Association (APA), The Road to Resilience Project is designed to provide members with tools and information they can use to make a personal connection with the public in their own community.

Getting Started

The information in this section suggests a number of ways to engage the people who live and work in your community to raise awareness about the topic of resilience. The success of this campaign will be measured in grassroots outreach, so whether you take part in one or all of these activities, or come up with other ways to engage your community, it?s important to keep in mind that the individual efforts play an important role in raising public awareness of this important topic.

Talking About Resilience to the Media

The following ideas are designed to help you seek media coverage to promote information about resilience in your community as well as public attendance at community forums or talks you may be providing.

Giving a Presentation

One of the very first steps in developing a presentation for delivery to a community group or organization as part of The Road to Resilience project is to identify your audience. Building an audience from scratch can take a lot of work, so reaching out to existing organizations and becoming part of their regular meeting agenda is the best approach.
